The largest complaint among new parents is that they have sleep deprivation. Some studies show that parents actually get plenty of sleep but that the quality of sleep is very low. Here are some ideas other parents have found successful:
1. Swaddle your child during rest time. Especially new babies feel more rested when their movement is restricted like it was in the womb.
2. Use white noise. Research shows this helps in both adults and children.
3. Use baby massage. Baby massage is proven to reduce stress in the caregiver and the child. A baby will sleep better after she receives regular massage. Baby massage may also reduce the symptoms of colic.
4. Use the family bed. If you are nursing your child, it can be more restful to co-sleep than to wake every couple of hours and leave your room. There is some controversy regarding the family bed so be prepared to own your decision whether you choose to practice this method or not.
